Brother to Zeus and probabaly one of the most violent and hot-blooded of the Olympian Gods, he is at the centre of a lot of Ancient Greek drama.
His fueds with Athena, whom he competed against for Athens, and Odysseus, who blinded Poseidon's son, Prometheus, are famous. Poseidon is also the god who defiled Medusa in the Temple of Athena to which she was then punished with a head of snakes.
He is often depcited riding a sea-horse drawn ship with his trident to hand.
